Speer (they/them) is an ultimate frisbee player, surfer, coffee drinker, mild Murakami reader, flower gardener, black & white film photographer, and lover of life. Originally hailing from the Mid-Atlantic, they spent all 18 years in their hometown of Virginia Beach, VA before getting a college degree at William & Mary. Soon after, they moved to Davis, CA to get their PhD in chemistry from UC Davis. Now they’ve been focusing on building community and exploring their artistic side through their photography. They mostly focus on natural and abstract subjects while maximizing the subjective interpretation of their photographs. Their effective motivation is “what does this picture mean to me in my current context? and why does my opinion matter more than yours?” You can find some of their pictures published here for the year! Beyond their photography, you can easily find them sipping coffee at Temple Coffee Roasters, playing frisbee out on one of Davis’s many field spaces, or surfing the norcal coastline.
